Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

Key information for the assessment of decan-1 -ol, ethoxylated, 1 -2.5EO; CAS 26183 -52 -8

LC50 (14d) > 1000 mg/kg dw. for Eisenia fetida

Additional information

Generally, the substance is not supposed to be directly applied to soil and further is readily biodegradable. Hence, in case of indirect exposure to soil, the substance is expected to rapidly degrade. Therefore, soil is not expected to be a compartment of concern. Thus, the risk to terrestrial organisms is regarded to be negligible.

Nevertheless, within the alcohol ethoxylates category terrestrial tests are available which were conducted according to OECD-guidelines. In a test on earthworms conducted with alcohols, C16 -C18, ethoxylated (BASF, 1990) no acute toxicity of the compound could be demonstrated (LC50 > 1000 mg/kg soil dw.). In a study conducted with alcohols, C12 -14, ethoxylated in three plant species the NOEC for seedling emergence and growth for all tested plants could be determined to be higher than 100 mg/kg soil dw (Sasol, 1994). This data were used for PNEC derivation. The PEC/PNEC ratios for soil compartment are below one, hence further tests with soil organisms are not required.
