Description of key information

Appearance:

On the basis of physical observation and using the sense of smell, the appearance of N-ethyl-2 -(isopropyl)-5 -methylcyclohexanecarboxamide (CAS No. 39711 -79 -0) was observed to be a white solid powder organic compound.

Melting point:

The melting point determination of N-ethyl-2-(isopropyl)-5-methylcyclohexanecarboxamide (CAS No. 39711-79-0) was done following OECD Guideline 102 and according to the metal block capillary method. The test was conducted in replicates and Mean Melting temperature range was determine to be 87.5 - 90.6°C at 968.1hPa.

Boiling Point:

The boiling point determination of N-ethyl-2-(isopropyl)-5-methylcyclohexanecarboxamide (CAS No. 39711-79-0) was done following OECD Guideline 103 and according to the method of Siwoloboff. no string of bubbles were observed upto 300 deg C, inferring boiling point to be greater than 300°C at 965.4 hPa.

Density:

The density of test item N-ethyl-2-(isopropyl)-5-methylcyclohexanecarboxamide (CAS No. 39711-79 -0) was determined following OECD Guideline 109 and according to the Adapted from ASTM D854-02 using glass pyknometer. The mean density of test item was determine to be 0.3318 g/cm³at 20°C and 968.1 hPa.

Particle size distribution:

The particle size distribution of test item N-ethyl-2-(isopropyl)-5-methylcyclohexanecarboxamide (CAS No. 39711-79-0) was determined by granulometric analysis with rotap sieve shaker. The particle size distribution was determine to bein the range of 150 micron to 25 micron.

Vapour pressure:

The estimated vapour pressure of the N-ethyl-2-isopropyl-5-methylcyclohexanecarboxamide at 25 deg C was 0.0072 Pa.

Partition coefficient:

The partition Coefficient n-octanol/water of test chemical N-ethyl-2-(isopropyl)-5-methylcyclohexanecarboxamide (CAS No. 39711-79-0) was determined by the Reverse Phase High Performance Liquid Chromatographic method according to OECD Guideline No. 117 for testing of Chemicals. A test item solution was prepared by accurately weighing 4 mg of test item and diluted with Acetonitrile up to 10 ml. Thus, the test solution concentration was 400 mg/l. The pH of test substance was 5.3. The reference substances were chosen according to estimated Pow range of the test substance and generalized calibration graph was prepared. The reference substances were Butanone, Acetophenone, Benzophenone, 4-Methoxyphenol, Phenol, Benzene, Biphenyl, Methyl benzoate, Benzyl Benzoate, 1,4-Dichlorobenzene, 1,2,4-Trichlorobenzene, Chlorobenzene, Bromobenzene, 2,3-Dichloroaniline, 4-Acetylpyridine, Acetanilide, 2-Nitrophenol, Nitrobenzene, 2,6-Dichlorobenzonitrile, Diphenylamine, Cinnamyl alcohol, 4-Methylbenzyl alcohol, Benzyl alcohol, Phenoxyacetic acid, Cinnamic Acid, Dodecanoic acid, Toluene, Ethylbenzene, n-Butylbenzene, Naphthalene, Diphenyl ether, Allyl phenyl ether, DDT having Pow value ranging from 0.3 to 6.5. The Log Pow value of the test chemical N-ethyl-2-(isopropyl)-5-methylcyclohexanecarboxamide was determined to be 2.902± 0.001 dimensionless at 25°C. On the basis of this value, test chemical N-ethyl-2-(isopropyl)-5-methylcyclohexanecarboxamide can be considered to be hydrophilic in nature.

Water solubility:

The water solubility for the test item N-ethyl-2-(isopropyl)-5-methylcyclohexanecarboxamide was determine to be 186.03775 mg/L at 25°C.

Hence, the N-ethyl-2-(isopropyl)-5-methylcyclohexanecarboxamide (CAS No. 39711-79-0) is considered to be moderately soluble in water.

Surface tension:

Surface tension of the N-ethyl-2-isopropyl-5-methylcyclohexanecarboxamide is predicted to be 29.1 N/m.

Flash point:

The mean flash point of N-ethyl-2-(isopropyl)-5-methylcyclohexanecarboxamide (CAS No. 39711-79-0) was 200°C at 967.3hPa.

Auto flammability:

N-ethyl-2-isopropyl-5-methylcyclohexanecarboxamide did not catch fire on being exposed to air at room temperature of 27°Cpressure of 966 hPa. This indicates that  N-ethyl-2-isopropyl-5-methylcyclohexanecarboxamide is not auto-flammable.

Flammability:

N-ethyl-2 -isopropyl-5 -methylcyclohexanecarboxamide does not indicate any ignition when the flame of bunsen burner having temperature of approximately 950°C is brought in contact with it. Thus it can be concluded that N-ethyl-2 -isopropyl-5 -methylcyclohexanecarboxamide is not flammable at high temperature. However since such high temperatures are not found under normal circumstances of transportation and use, thus N-ethyl-2 -isopropyl-5 -methylcyclohexanecarboxamide was considered non-flammable.

The pH of 1% w/v solution of the test item N-ethyl-2-(isopropyl)-5-methylcyclohexanecarboxamide (CAS No 39711-79-0) was 4.63 at 26 °C.

Other supporting data from handbooks, also observed the N-ethyl-2-isopropyl-5-methylcyclohexanecarboxamide as white crystalline solid in appearance.

N-ethyl-2-isopropyl-5-methylcyclohexanecarboxamide did not catch fire on being exposed to air at room temperature of 27°Cpressure of 966 hPa. This indicates that  N-ethyl-2-isopropyl-5-methylcyclohexanecarboxamide is not auto-flammable.
