Six health young adult albino New Zealand type rabbits with body weights in the range of 2.0 to 3.5kg at the preliminary eye examination were used.
The criteria used for housing and maintenance were those specified in the 'Guide for the Care and Use of Laboratory Animals'. [DHEW Publication No. (NIH) 78-23, Revised 1978]

Executive summary:

The Primary Ocular Irritation Scores were 1.0 at 24 hours and 0 and 48 and 72 hours and 4 and 7 days. Therefore Methyl Octine Carbonate was classified as non-irritating.

After 7 days, no animal had a positive score.
