Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Additional information

Experimental data investigating the biodegradability of Isopentyl oleate (CAS 627-89-4) is not available. The assessment was therefore based on a study conducted with the structural analogue substances Isopentyl laurate (CAS 6309-51-9) and and Isopropyl oleate (CAS 112-11-8) as part of a read across approach, which is in accordance with Regulation (EC) No. 1907/2006, Annex XI, 1.5. Further justification is given within the overall summary chapter 6.1 and within the analogue justification section 13.

The biodegradability of Isopentyl laurate (CAS 6309-51-9) was tested according to OECD Guideline 301B (Junghans, 2008). A degradation rate of 100% based on CO2 evolution was determined after 28 days of exposure. The biodegradation of the test item reached 80% at the end of the 10-day window. A comparable result was determined in a study on the structural analogue Isopropyl oleate (CAS 112-11-8). The biodegradability was tested according to OECD Guideline 301 B (GLP; Desmares-Koopmans, 1997). Domestic sewage was used as inoculum. During the 28-day test period, biodegradation reached 100%, based on O2 consumption, and the 10-day window criterion was met.

Based on the results from one structurally related read-across substance (in accordance to Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006 Annex XI, 1.5) it can be concluded that the target substance isopentyl oleate (CAS 627-89-4) is readily biodegradable according to the OECD criteria. 5.2.2

In accordance with Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006, Annex IX, column 2, 9.2.1.2 and 9.2.1.4 simulation testing on ultimate degradation in surface water and sediment is not required. Isopentyl oleate (CAS 627-89-4) considered readily biodegradable. According to the ECHA Guidance on information requirements and chemical safety assessment, Chapter R.7b a simulation test would not provide any new findings since a rapid mineralization in the environment is already assumed (ECHA, 2016).
