As reported in Safety data sheet of the registrant the pH of the Tetrabutylammonium hydrogen sulphate 55% in water is about 1.5. A lower pH is reasonable expected for the pure registered substance. According to REACH regulation (EC n. 1907/2006), annex VII, column 2, the study does not need to be conducted if the available information indicates that the criteria are met for classification as corrosive to the skin or irritating to eyes. According to the CLP Regulation (EC n. 1272/2008) a substance is considered corrosive to skin (Skin corrosive Category 1) if it has a pH of 2 or less or a pH of 11,5 or greater.
Justification for classification or non-classification
According to the CLP Regulation (EC n. 1272/2008) and based on the low pH of TBHS 55% solution in water, the classification H314 (Causes severe skin burns and eye damage) is proposed for tetrabutylammonium hydrogen sulphate.
