Additional information

Sodium chloride is categorised under GRAS (Generally Recognised as Safe) by the FDA (U.S. Food and Drug Administration). Based on the studies available for skin and eye irritation/corrosion, sodium chloride is considered to be slightly to not irritating to the skin, and slightly irritating to the eyes.

There are no data available on the respiratory irritation potential for sodium chloride, but based on results of skin and eye irritation tested, would not be expected to be irritating.

Effects on eye irritation: moderately irritating
