Name:
Magnesium Chloride
Type of composition:

Reference substance:
Magnesium Chloride
PBT status:
PBT assessment does not apply
Justification:

A PBT and vPvB assessment shall be conducted as foreseen in Article 14 (3) (d) in conjunction with Annex I Section 4 according to the criteria as laid down in Annex XIII. According to Annex XIII of regulation (EC) 1907/2006 a PBT and vPvB assessment shall not be conducted for inorganic substances. Magnesium chloride is an inorganic substance, thus a PBT and vPvB assessment is not required.

Moreover :

> P criteria is not relevant as Magnesium Chloride is an inorganic substance quite soluble in contact with water, and that immediately dissociate into ions Mg2+and Cl-

> B criteria is not relevant as Magnesium and Chloride ions are essentials elements which are bioregulated, (homeostatic mechanims)

> T criteria is not relevant because Magnesium Chloride is not classified as a toxic substance for the environment or CMR or STOT RE.

The substance MgCl2 does not fulfil the P, B and T criteria. Therefore the substance cannot be classified as PBT/vPvB.
