- Endpoint:
- viscosity
- Type of information:
- experimental study
- Adequacy of study:
- key study
- Reliability:
- 2 (reliable with restrictions)
- Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
- guideline study with acceptable restrictions
- Qualifier:
- according to guideline
- Guideline:
- other: Ubbelohde
- Principles of method if other than guideline:
- The determination of the kinematic viscosity was carried out by the capillary method with a viscosimeter according to Ubbelohde.
For a specific liquid volume of the test item the flow time is measured through a capillary under the influence of gravity. The measurement is carried out at a specific temperature. The results are given in mm2/s.
The method is applicable to liquids with a kinematic viscosity between approx. 0.5 and 10^5 mm2/s - GLP compliance:
- no
- Type of method:
- capillary viscometer (static)
- Key result
- Temp.:
- 20°C
- Parameter:
- kinematic viscosity (in mm²/s)
- Value:
- 1.294
- Conclusions:
- A kinematic viscosity of 1.2944 at 20°C was determined using the capillary method in accordance with Ubbelonhde. This result is considered to be reliable.

Description of key information
Viscosity: 1.2944 mm2/s at 20°C (Capillary method)
Key value for chemical safety assessment
- Viscosity:
- 1.294 mm²/s (static)
- at the temperature of:
- 20 °C
Additional information
A kinematic viscosity of 1.2944 at 20°C was determined for the substance using the capillary method (Ubbelonhde). The result is considered to be reliable and is selected as key study.
The key result is supported by a predicted kinematic viscosity value of 1.6 mm2/s at 20°C which was determined for the substance using a validated QSAR estimation method.
In available secondary sources to which reliability could not be assigned, viscosity values of 1.4 mPa·s (dynamic) at 20°C and 1.2 mPa·s (dynamic) at 25°C were reported for the substance.
