Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

PBT assessment: overall result

PBT status:
the substance is not PBT / vPvB
Justification:

The PBT Assessment for sodium dimethyldithiocarbamate is based on the criteria set out in the “Guidance on information requirements and chemical safety assessment, Chapter R.11: PBT Assessment” (ECHA, 2017).

Persistence:

Sodium dimethyldithiocarbamate is readily biodegradable based on the available experimental data. Thus, the test substance does not meet the screening criterion for persistency and it is not considered to be persistent (P) or very persistent (vP).

Bioaccumulation:

Sodium dimethyldithiocarbamate has a log Kow of -3.2 (EU Method A.8). Thus, the substance does not meet the screening criterion for bioaccumulation and is not considered to be bioaccumulative (B) or very bioaccumulative (vB).

Toxicity:

The lowest long-term effect value for aquatic toxicity to freshwater organisms is less than 0.01 mg/L (ErC10 (72 h) = 0.74 µg a.i./L, OECD 201, N. pelliculosa). Thus, the criterion set out in Annex XIII of Regulation (EC) No. 1907/2006 is met and the test substance is considered to meet the T criterion.

In conclusion the substance is not PBT/vPvB.
