Additional information

The results of two valid studies on skin irritating properties of 1 -Hexadecene and a blend of C16/C18 olefins indicate

that the substances may cause mild skin irritation. However, the determined Draize scores don´t lead to a classification

according to the Directive (EC) 67/548.

Based on the categorisation, skin irritation studies of olefins ranging fromC6 - C18 are regarded. Most available data show
that, under 4-hr semi-occluded conditions, C6-C18 alpha and internal olefins are only mildly irritating to rabbit skin
When current testing guideline recommendations (OECD 404) were used, only two of the olefines tested
(C10 and C12 alpha olefins) produced 24-72 hr scores for erythema or edema >=2.
When tested under more extreme conditions (24-hr exposure, abraded skin, occluded dressing), several alpha
and internal olefins caused irritation. The results of two valid studies on eye irritating properties of 1 -Hexadecene and a blend of C16/C18 olefins indicate that the substances may caus mild eyeirritation. Similar to the results of skin irritation, the Draize scoresobtained don´t lead to a classification according to the Directive (EC)67/548. Eye irritation studies of C6 -C18 olefins give the same results.
