Description of key information

The target chemical aluminium, 6-hydroxy-5-[(4-sulfophenyl)azo]-2-naphthalenesulfonic acid complex is a solid with particle size greater than inhalable size particles. Also, it has a low vapor pressure (0.000000000133 Pa). Thus, exposure by the inhalation route is improbabale. Also given the use of the chemical as a food color, oral route of exposure shall be the most dominant.

However, food colors are used in small quantities and hence absorption is also expected to be low. In addition, the bio-concentration factor (BCF) of the chemical is also low (3.162). Thus, considering all the above factors it can be concluded that the bio-accumulation potential of the chemical shall be low.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Bioaccumulation potential:
low bioaccumulation potential

Additional information

A weight of evidence has been adopted in predicting the bio-accumulation potential of the target chemical aluminium, 6-hydroxy-5-[(4-sulfophenyl)azo]-2-naphthalenesulfonic acid complex. In-vivo studies in Rat and Rabbit with the read-across chemicaldisodium 6-hydroxy-5-[(4-sulphonatophenyl)azo]naphthalene-2-sulphonate have shown that the chemical is rapidly metabolized and excreted out of the living system through urine and fecal route. Therefore, it has been concluded that the target chemical is also unlikely to bio-accumulate in-vivo.
