Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

In the vapor phase, an atmospheric half-life of 87 min is predicted for VNB due to oxidation by photochemically produced hydroxy radicals. Half-life in the atmosphere due to reaction with ozone is predicted to be 78 min.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Half-life in air:
87 min

Additional information

AOPWIN software v1.92 calculates the hydroxyl radical rate constant for VNB to be 88.5E-12 cm³/(molecule*sec). This corresponds to a half-life of 0.121 days based on a 12 -hr day and a hydroxyl radical concentration of 1.5E6 OH/cm3 (ie 0.9 hrs). The dominant reaction is hydroxy radical addition to the olefinic bonds. The predicted rate constant for reaction with ozone is 21.200001 E-17 cm3/molecule-sec leading to a half life of 0.054 Days or 1.297 hours (based on an ozone concentration of 7E11 mol/cm3).
