Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Additional information

Toxicity studies are waived because of high insolubility of anthraquinone in water.

In closed bottle test according to EU method C.4E, comparable to the OECD TG 301D with inoculum containing mixed population of microorganisms obtained from secondary effluent of wastewater treatment plant the biodegradation of Anthraquinone was investigated and inhibition control (toxicity test) was done.

The test was performed at temperature of 20±1°C with the pH values of solution 7-8 at the beginning of the test. In this 28-days study the degradation of 62.0% of the Anthraquinone was attained in the end of study (Nachtigallová A., M.Sc., 2009).

In the toxicity test, after 14 days of incubation the degradation of test and reference substance was 47.2%, therefore the AQ is not inhibiting for microorganisms in used inoculum (Nachtigallová A., M.Sc., 2009).

Therefore the AQ has a limited solubility in water a direct dosing of dispersion into each bottle was implemented. The dispersion of the test substance was prepared as 0.1g to 1000 ml mineral medium. 4.7 ml of dispersion were dosed into individual bottles (volume approximately 283.4 mL). The tested concentration at which toxicity to the inoculum was ruled out (NOEC) was 1.66 mg/L (nominal test concentration).

Result of study is above water solubility, thus the test result has to be considered as unreliable.
