Additional information

The substance (CAS No. 108-45-2) is a solid.

The melting point is 63.2°C and was measured using a capillary apparatus (DuPont 18632-1644).

The boiling point is 284.0°C and was measured according to ASTM Method D1120 (DuPont 18632-1644).

Density is 0.709 g/mL at 22°C and was measured according to ASTM method No. E-727 (DuPont 18632-1644).

Granulometry measurements have been conducted. Approximately 11.1% of the particles were less than 180 µm by sieving. The particles that were less than 180 µm had the following particle size distribution: 10% > 57.84, 25% > 51.81, 50% > 25.71, 75% >14.71, and 90% >9.308 µm (DuPont-18632-1644).

The vapour pressure is 3.77E-2 Pa at 20°C and was measured according to OECD Guideline 104 by the spinning rotor method (DuPont-18632-394).

The octanol/water partition co-efficient (log Pow) is -0.39 and was calculated using KOWWIN version 1.67 (QMRF and QPRF documents are available).

The water solubility is 429000 mg/L at 20°C and pH 10 (DuPont-18632-1644). The measurement was performed according to OECD Guideline 105.

The surface tension measurement was waived. In accordance with Column 2 adaptation statement of REACH Annex VII, information requirement section 7.6, this study does not need to be conducted since surface activity is not a desired property of the molecule.

No flash point measurement was conducted. In accordance to REACH Annex XI Section 2, with reference to the guidance mentioned in REACH Art 13(3) the test guidance "ECHA guidance on Information requirements and chemical safety assessment Chapter R.7a Endpoint specific guidance" needs to be respected. This guidance indicates that a flash point does not need to be conducted for substances that are solids or gases at room temperature.

No auto-ignition study was conducted. In accordance with Column 2 adaptation statement of REACH Annex VII, information requirement section 7.12, this study does not need to be conducted for solids with melting points less than 160°C.

The substance did not ignite during the full 2 minutes of heating when tested according to EC Method A.10 (DuPont 18632-1644). Therefore, the material is not highly flammable.

The substance is non-explosive. In accordance with Column 2 adaptation statement of REACH Annex VII, information requirement section 7.11, explosivity testing does not need to be conducted based on a structural assessment of the substance. Examination of the structure indicates that there are no groups associated with explosive properties.

The substance is non-oxidising. In accordance with Column 2 adaptation statement of REACH Annex VII, information requirement section 7.13, measurement of oxidising properties does not need to be conducted based on structural assessment of the substance. The substance contains no oxidising groups and contains no oxygen atoms.

Measurement of stability in organic solvents was waived. In accordance with REACH Annex XI Section 2, with reference to the guidance mentioned in REACH Art 13(3) the test guidance "ECHA guidance on Information requirements and chemical safety assessment Chapter R.7a Endpoint specific guidance" needs to be respected. This guidance indicates that this study does not need to be conducted since the stability in organic solvents is not considered critical. This would be assessed in individual studies where organic solvents are used.

The dissociation constant, 4.58, was calculated using equations included in "pKa Prediction for Organic Acids and Bases” (Perrin, et al, 1981).

Measurement of viscosity is not required. In accordance to REACH Annex XI Section 2, with reference to the guidance mentioned in REACH Art 13(3) the test guidance "ECHA guidance on Information requirements and chemical safety assessment Chapter R.7a Endpoint specific guidance" needs to be respected. This guidance indicates that viscosity measurement is only relevant to liquids.
