PBT assessment: overall result

PBT status:
the substance is not PBT / vPvB
Justification:

The tetraethylene glycol substance is regarded as not P/vP, not B/vB, and not T on the following bases:

Persistence:

The substance is shown to be readily biodegradable in the OECD 301 test. Therefore, the substance can be concluded as not P and not vP based on this screening criterion of ready biodegradability.

Bioaccumulation Potential:

The substance has a calculated log Kow value of -2.0, which is far from the screening criterion of log Kow >/= 4.5.

Toxicity:

The available acute aquatic E/LC50 values for fish, invertebrates, and algae are in excess of 1,000 mg/L. The 72 hr. NOEC for a saltwater alga was 100 mg/L. Considering typical acute:chronic ratios for fish and invertebrates, it can be reliably concluded that NOEC values for fish and invertebrates are well above 0.01 mg/L.
