DSC-measurements


During the heating phase a distinct endothermic effect was observed in the temperature range of 130 – 160 °C, which can be assigned to the melting of the test item. As the onset temperatures in both tests do not deviate by more than 0.5 K from their mean value of 145.70 °C, this temperature can be used as melting point. The test item has a melting point of 145.7 °C. The test item showed a second endothermic signal in the temperature range of
290 – 380 °C, which could not be clearly assigned to the boiling of the test item. Thus, the photo cell detection method was performed. In the capillary, the first large bubble rises at 273 °C. At the same time, the test item changes colour from a clear, yellowish liquid to an orange, light brown liquid. It is concluded that the test item decomposes simultaneously with the start of boiling. Based on visual observation in the BÜCHI Apparatus it is stated that the test item has no boiling point but starts to decompose at a temperature of 290 °C. No further thermal effects were observed up to the test end temperature of 500 °C.
