Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

Acute toxicity to fish:

Acute toxicity of the compound reaction mass of m-terphenyl and o-terphenyl was investigated according to OECD Guideline 203.

Following results have been obtained after an exposure period of 96 hours: LC50 = 6.7 µg/L (95% confidence limits: 6.0 to 7.4 µg/L), NOEC = 6.0 µg/L, LOEC = 7.4 µg/L.

Acute toxicty to aquatic invertebrates:

Acute toxicity of the compound reaction mass of m-terphenyl and o-terphenyl was investigated under semistatic conditions. The test was performed according to OECD Guideline 202 (2004) and EU Method C.2 (2008).
Results: Exposure of Daphnia magna to the test item gave EC50 (48 h) values based on the geometric mean measured test concentration of greater than 0.0096 mg/L. The NOEC (48 h) was 0.0096 mg/L. No immobilization was observed throughout the test. This study showed that there were no toxic effects at saturation.

Toxicity to aquatic algae:

A study according to OECD Guideline 201 was performed to determine the aquatic toxicity of the test compound to green alga Pseudokirchneriella subcapitata.
Results for growth rate (72 h): EC50: >0.027 mg/L*, EC20>0.027 mg/L*, EC10: 0.026 mg/L, LOEC: 0.015 mg/L, NOEC: 0.027 mg/L. *:It was not possible to calculate ErC20 or ErC50 values as at the maximum attainable test concentration of 0.027 mg/L, no more than 18% inhibition of growth rate occurred.
Results for yield (72 h): EC50: 0.027 mg/L, EC20>0.026 mg/L, EC10: 0.025 mg/L, LOEC: 0.015 mg/L, NOEC: 0.027 mg/L.
