Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

PBT assessment: overall result

PBT status:
the substance is not PBT / vPvB
Justification:

The PBT Assessment is based on the criteria set out in the “Guidance on information requirements and chemical safety assessment, Chapter R.11: PBT Assessment” (ECHA, 2017).

Persistence (P) Assessment:

The substance 2-Phenoxyethyl octanoate is readily biodegradable but failing the ten day window criterion (OECD 301B: 81% in 28 days, but failing ten day window). Thus, the criteria for ready biodegradability are fulfilled with the exception of the 10-day window, and there is no reason to perform further biodegradation tests for the PBT/vPvB assessment. Therefore, the substance is not expected to be persistent in the environment and does not meet the criteria for Persistent (P) or very Persistent (vP).

Bioaccumulation (B) Assessment:

The substance is not persistent (P or vP). Therefore, no B-assessment was carried out since it is only required if the substance fulfils the P or vP criteria, according to the guideline (Guidance on Information Requirements and Chemical Safety Assessment Chapter R.11: PBT/vPvB assessment, 2017).

Toxicity (T) Assessment:

2-Phenoxyethyl octanoate is not toxic. Acute toxicity tests determined no toxicity of the substance up to the limit of water solubility. The substance is furthermore not classified as carcinogenic, mutagenic or toxic for reproduction nor is there any evidence of chronic toxicity according to the consolidated version of Regulation (EC) No. 1272/2008 (CLP) considering all further amendments. Therefore, the criteria for “T” are not met.
