Details on sampling:
- Concentrations: The control and loading rates of 50 and 100 mg/L were analysed analytically. The lower loading rates of 6.25, 12.5 and 25 mg/L were not analysed since they were not relevant for the interpretation of the biological results.
- Sampling method: Duplicate samples were taken from each loading rate and the control at the start and end of the test. For sampling from the aged test media, the contents of the respective replicates were combined prior to sampling.
- Sample storage conditions before analysis: All samples were stored frozen (at -20 ± 5 °C) immediately after sampling.

Details on test solutions:
PREPARATION AND APPLICATION OF TEST SOLUTION (especially for difficult test substances)
- Method: Water Accommodated Fractions (WAFs) were prepared individually. The test item was mixed into test water by intensive stirring for 96 h in a closed vessel in the dark to dissolve the different components of the test item as far as possible within a reasonable time period. After stirring, the emulsions were filtered through a 0.45 μm membrane filter (Whatman, NC45). As a pre-caution, the filter was pre-conditioned with 200 mL filtrate to avoid losses of dissolved test item due to adsorption on the filter material. The undiluted filtrates were tested as WAFs.

- Other: The effect level is within the range given by the guideline (0.60 - 2.1 mg/L)
Reported statistics and error estimates:
The EL50 (48 h) could not be calculated by Probit Analysis or Moving Average Interpolation due to the steep concentration-effect relationship. Instead, the EL50 (48 h) was calculated by linear interpolation of the immobility between the two consecutive test concentrations with 0 and 60 % immobility on a semi-logarithmic scale (the 95% confidence limits could not be determined).

Additional information

One experimental study is available investigating the short-term toxicity of the test item to aquatic invertebrates. The acute toxicity of the test item to Daphnia magna was determined in a 48-hour static test according to OECD 202 (2004) under GLP conditions. Since the test item is a complex mixture (UVCB) consists of several constituents with differently low solubility, Water Accommodated Fractions (WAFs) with the loading rates of 6.25, 12.5, 25, 50 and 100 mg/L were tested to assess the toxicity of the test item to daphnids. Additionally, a control group (test water without test item) was tested in parallel. The actual test concentrations in the test medium of the two highest loading rates were verified by GC/FID measurement at the start and end of the test. At the start of the test, the measured concentrations of the analyzed components of the test item in the test media with loading rates of 50 and 100 mg/L were 0.51 and 0.94 mg/L, respectively. The measured concentrations at the end of the test were in the range of 13 and 16 % of the initially measured values. The 48-hour EL50 was calculated (based on loading rates) to be 89 mg/L. Since WAFs were tested, all reported biological results were based on the loading rates of the test item. The preparation of the WAFs and procedure of evaluation of data of WAFs is based on recommendations of the OECD Guidance Document No. 23 on Aquatic Toxicity Testing of Difficult Substances and Mixtures, 2000.
