Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

No experimental data are available for ‘propane-1,2-diol, propoxylated’. However, for the structural analogues and constituents mono-, di- and tripropylene glycol data are available. Based on the lowest 72h-EC50 of >100 mg/L (for dipropylene glycol), it can be assumed that the 72h-EC50 for ‘propane-1,2-diol, propoxylated’ is > 100 mg/L. This is supported by calculations with ECOSAR v1.00 which indicate a 72h-EC50 value in the range 3000-4000mg/L based on modelling of the components and their likely composition

Additional information

Monopropylene glycol:

Experimental data are available with fresh water and marine algae. In fresh water, the 96-h EC50 is 19,000 mg/l in Pseudokirchnerella subcapitata (reported as Selenastrum capricornutum) and the 14-d NOEC is 15,000 mg/l (ARCO Chemical Company, 1990). In marine water, the 96-h EC50 is 19,100 mg/l in Skeletonema costatum and the 14-d NOEC is <5300 mg/l (ARCO Chemical Company, 1990). The 14-day NOEC values cannot be used, since a NOEC should be a minimum value and the algae are not in the exponential growth phase anymore after 96 hours.

Dipropylene glycol:

A GLP compliant, OECD 201 guideline study is available for dipropylene glycol, measuring a 72-h EC50 and a 72-h NOEC value of >100 mg/l in the green algae Desmodesmus subspicatus (BASF, 2002).

Tripropylene glycol:

One non-GLP compliant guideline study (OECD 201) is available for tripropylene glycol. The 72-h EbC50 value and 72-h NOEbC value is >1,000 mg/l (nominal concentration) inPseudokirchnerella subcapitata(reported as Selenastrum capricornutum) (OECD, 1994). These values are used in the assessment.

QSAR:

A 96-h EC50 = 3000 -4000 mg/l was calculated using ECOSAR v1.11 based on modelling of the individual components.
