Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

The 96-h LC50 of the structurally related analogue and constituent tripropylene glycol to Oryzias latipes is > 1000 mg/L.
Based on this information it can be assumed that the 96-h LC50 of ‘propane-1,2-diol, propoxylated’ is > 1000 mg/L

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

No data on ‘propane-1,2-diol, propoxylated’ are available. However, Article 13 of the REACH legislation states that, in case no appropriate animal studies are available for assessement, information should be generated whenever possible by means of other than vertebrate animal tests, i.e. applying alternative methods such as in vitro tests, QSARs, grouping and read-across. Studies with the structural analogues and constituents mono- and tripropylene glycol are available for assessment.

The 96-h LC50 of the structural analogue and constituent monopropylene glycol to Oncorhynchus mykiss is 40613 mg/L.

The 96-h LC50 of the structural analogue and constituent tripropylene glycol to Oryzias latipes is > 1000 mg/L.

Furthermore, calculated effect concentrations are available for freshwater fish (96-h LC50 20889 mg/l). Although the QSAR calculation was done with an example of a ‘propane-1,2-diol, propoxylated’ (the structure can vary), it indicates that the short-term aquatic toxicity to fish of ‘propane-1,2-diol, propoxylated’ is above 1000 mg/l.

Based on this information it can be assumed that the 96-h LC50 of ‘propane-1,2-diol, propoxylated’can assumed to be > 1000 mg/L
