Stoddard solvent possess properties indicating a potential hazard for the environment (acute toxicity for fish, invertebrates, and algae (in the range of 1 to 100 mg/l) based on nominal loadings; available chronic toxicity data for invertebrates, fish, and algae are in the range of 0.1 – 1.0 mg/l, based on nominal loadings.

Conclusion on classification

 The Stoddard solvent meet the criteria to be classified for environmental hazards. Based on the hazard assessment of Stoddard solvent in section 2.1 and 2.2.in IUCLID 6., available data for the substance and following the “Guidance on Information Requirement and Chemical Safety Assessment R.10, it is concluded that the following phrases needs to be assigned according to the criteria described in Directive 67/548 and in the CLP Regulation:
