For TBBS a hydrolysis half-life time of 7.76 -9.53 h in buffered deionized water at pH 7.0 and 25°C with light excluded was observed (Monsanto, 1984). Mercaptobenzothiazole (CAS: 149-30-4) and tert-butylamine (CAS: 75-64-9) were identified hydrolysis products.
The indirect atmospheric oxidation rate by reaction with OH-radicals was estimated by using AOPWIN v1.92 to be 4.56*10-11 cm3 molecule-1 s-1 and half-life thus 8.44 h. The estimated half-life in air of TBBS is much shorter than 48 hours and hence no potential for long-range transport of TBBS in air is expected.
