Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

One experimental study according to OECD 301C confirmed that 2-(2-ethoxyethoxy)ethyl acetate (CAS 112-15-2) is readily biodegradable according to the OECD criteria (101% biodegradation after 28 d). The degradation via abiotic hydrolysis is not considered to be a relevant degradation pathway in the environment since QSAR results using SPARC v4.5 resulted in DT50 values > 24 h at pH 7. Considering the water solubility (> 1000 g/L) and the low potential for adsorption (Koc: 22.6 L/Kg), the surface water is expected to be the main target for environmental distribution.

Nevertheless, persistency in this compartment is not expected since the substance is readily biodegradable. Evaporation into air and the transport through the atmospheric compartment might become a relevant environmental pathway based on the vapour pressure of 13.2 Pa (SRC Physprop database). However, the air compartment is not a relevant compartment of environmental distribution as indicated by Mackay Level III calculation, which resulted in only ca 6.6% distribution in the air compartment whereas ca. 90% will be distributed in the surface water. Moreover, if released into air, 2-(2-ethoxyethoxy)ethyl acetate is susceptible to rapid indirect photodegradation by OH-radicals with a DT50 of 13.2 h (AOPWIN v1.92). The potential for bioaccumulation of the test substance is assumed to be low based on the log Kow of 0.74
