Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

Partially unsaturated IQAC, DMS quaternised was eliminated for > 90% in a modified activated sludge unit. Simulation testing of partially unsaturated IQAC in sediments is therefore not necessary.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

In a study conducted similar to OECD Guideline 303 A (Simulation Test - Aerobic Sewage Treatment. A: Activated Sludge Units), Partially unsaturated IQAC, DMS quaternised was eliminated for > 90% in a modified activated sludge unit. The nitrification of the sludge unit was > 95%. The ammonium concentration was < 2 mg/L in the effluent.

Therefore simulation testing of Partially unsaturated IQAC in sediments is not necessary. In addition the substance is expected to hydrolyse rapidly in water. The closely related substance Oleic-acid based IQAC hydrolyses rapidly in water at environmental pH (Half life at pH7 2.9 days at 20°C, 2.5 days at 25°C, and at p H 9 the half life is 1.2 days at 20 °C).
