Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Toxicity Threshold Concentration (TCC) / EC3-equivalent: 1850 mg/L

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

There are no measured data on the acute toxicity of Tetrahydro-3-methylfuran on aquatic algae or cyanobacteria. Testing on a closely related analog substance, Tetrahydrofuran (CAS# 109-99 -9), to examine cell multiplication inhibition of Scenedesmus quadricauda under static condions yielded an 8 day Toxicity Threshold Concentration (TCC) of 3700 mg/L (Bringmann, 1976). This TCC is equivalent to an EC3 value. Applying a safety factor of 2 as suggested in the justification for read across document yields a TCC / EC3 value of 1850 mg/L suggesting a low degree of toxicity to aquatic algae.
