Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Additional information

Data on the short-term toxicity of 2-ethylhexanol nonanoate (CAS 59587-44-9) to aquatic organisms are not available. The assessment was therefore based on studies conducted with the structurally most similar substance Fatty acids, C8-16, 2-ethylhexyl esters (CAS 135800-37-2) was conducted to fulfill the data requirement. The short-term toxicity of Fatty acids, C8-16, 2-ethylhexyl esters (CAS 135800-37-2) as part of a read across approach, which is in accordance with Regulation (EC) No. 1907/2006, Annex XI, 1.5. Further justification is given within the overall summary chapter 6.1 and within the analogue justification.
The short-term toxicity of Fatty acids, C8-16, 2-ethylhexyl esters (CAS 135800-37-2) to aquatic invertebrates was investigated in a limit test according to EU Method C.2 under GLP conditions (Wierich, 1998). Daphnia magna were exposed to the substance under static conditions for 48 hours. A water accommodated fraction (WAF) of 100 mg/L (nominal) was tested. Undissolved test substance was removed by filtration. No immobilisation was observed in the treatment throughout the test period of 48 h. Hence, the 48 h-EC50 is determined to be > 100 mg/L based on the nominal test concentration. Thus, the substance is not expected to by acutely toxic to aquatic invertebrates up to the limit of water solubility.
Thus, based on the above mentioned result, and due to the structural and profile similarities of the substances, as are explained with in the overall endpoint summary 6.1 it can be concluded that no toxicological effects on aquatic invertebrates are expected up to the limit of water solubility for 2-ethylhexanol nonanoate (CAS 59587-44-9).
