Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Additional information

The water solubility of the substance 2-ethylhexyl nonanoate (CAS 59587-44-9) was determined according to OECD Guideline 105, using the slow-stirring flask method.

The test item in water showed insufficient stability of 13% after 4 days, although the water solubility was measured after 7 days.

For the determination of the solubility of the test item in water, higher excess of the test item was used at least (100 -1000 mg/L nominal concentration instead of 5 mg/L) as recommended within the validation report for stability measurement.

But hydrolysis of the test item should not occur during the measurements due to the results from (Q)SAR calculation (HYDROWIN v2.00, Estimation Programs Interface Suite™ for Microsoft® Windows v 4.11. US EPA, United States Environmental Protection Agency, Washington, DC, USA.), which shows half-life time of more than 1 year (pH 7: 14.15 yr at 25 °C and pH 8: 1,41 yr at 25 °C). For any formed species during a hydrolysis some peaks should be observable in the GC or at least if the column would be damaged column bleeding should be observed.

For the acid species, which could be formed during hydrolysis but were not extracted into the organic phase, the pH value should be decreased, but the measured pH for the water solubility test was 5.9 to 6.07.

The originally calibrated range was used, since in the measurement range 100 -1000 mg/L (nominal concentration) the criterion for RSD is fulfilled.
