Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

Due to the poor water solubility of ca. 0.19 mg/L exposure to microorganisms in STPs are considered negligible.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

Due to the poor water solubility of ca. 0.19 mg/L exposure to microorganisms in STPs are considered negligible. Moreover, the available screening tests on biodegradation in water do not indicate any inhibitory effects at the tested concentrations, i.e. up to the maximum water solubility. Tetradecanol is readily biodegradable as was shown in the BODIS-test according to ISO 10708 (Henkel KGaA, 1992). These results are supported by a Tetrahymena study on population growth impairment following the method of Schultz et al. In this assay tetradecanol was not toxic to the microorganisms up to the saturation limit (Schultz et al., 1990).
