Reference
Endpoint:
solubility in organic solvents / fat solubility
Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
key study
Study period:
2013
Reliability:
1 (reliable without restriction)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
guideline study
Remarks:
The study was conducted according to internationally accepted test guidelines and is considered relevant, adequate and reliable.
Qualifier:
equivalent or similar to guideline
Guideline:
other: OECD 105
Deviations:
yes
Qualifier:
equivalent or similar to guideline
Guideline:
other: EU test method L383 A/54-62 (EU A.6)
Deviations:
yes
Principles of method if other than guideline:
As solvent n-octanol is used instaed of water.
GLP compliance:
no
Medium:
n-octanol
Solubility:
> 730 g/L
Temp.:
23 °C
Test substance stable:
yes
Details on results:
- pH value could not be determined as the test item was solved in n-Octanol. pH value is only defined for aqueous solutions.
- Test temperature: 23 °C

In a solubility test, the following aliquots of Fatty acids, C16-18 and C18-unsatd., compds. with triethanolamine were added to 5 mL n-Octanol and stirred slowly for ten minutes:

While being added to n-Octanol, solutions with increasing viscosity were being formed.

With 32,3 g of test item being mixed into 4.15 g of n-Octanol, a viscous solution with a total weight of approximately 36.45 g has been formed. This is equivalent to 88.5 % (w/w) of test item in solution.

Thus the following results can be reported: n-Octanol Solubility > 885 g/kg. With a density of 0.83 g/L of the applied n-Octanol the value for the n-Octanol Solubiltiy is calculated to be > 730 g/L.

Conclusions:
The octanol solubililty > 730 g/L
Executive summary:

The octanol solubility was measured using the flask method according to OECD guideline 105 for measuring water solubility.

The octanol solubility > 730 g/L.

Description of key information

The octanol solubility > 730 g/L.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Solubility in organic solvents at 20°C:
730 g/L

Additional information

The octanol solubility was measured using the flask method according to OECD guideline 105 for measuring water solubility.

The octanol solubility > 730 g/L.
