Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Additional information

The key study comes from an HPLC screening study with the analogous substance 1-ethylpiperidine (CAS 766 -09 -6). The log Koc was determined to be 2.4 (ph 6.0; Koc = 277) (Bayer, 2006).

This result is supported by three modelled results for 1-methylpiperidine:

Based on the Molecular Connectivity Index (MCI), the log Koc for the uncharged molecule was calculated to be 1.73 (Koc = 53.8). Based on the experimental log Kow of 1.30, the log Koc for the uncharged molecule was calculated to be 1.58 (Koc = 37.9) (both estimates by KOCWIN v2.00; BASF SE, 2011). These values refer to the uncharged molecule. The experimental pKa of 10.08 (SPARC, 2011) indicates that the molecule will exist primarily as a cation in the environment (pH 5 to 9) and cations generally adsorb stronger to soils containing organic carbon and clay than their neutral counterparts. Regarding the charged molecule, at pH 7 the log Koc was estimated to be 2.72 (Koc = 527) following the method of Franco & Trapp (2008) and using the experimental pKa of 10.08 (BASF SE, 2011).
