Description of key information

In Annex IX of Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006 it is laid down that chronic toxicity tests shall be proposed by the registrant if the chemical safety assessment indicates the need to investigate further the effects on fish. The hazard assessment for propyl-S-lactate neither results in classification of the substance as dangerous to the environment, nor is it a PBT or vPvB substance. Furthermore, environmental risks are controlled according to the chemical safety assessment performed according to REACH Annex I. Therefore, following the criteria of REACH Annex IX, point 9.1.5, column 2, and in addition for animal welfare reasons, a long-term toxicity study in fish is not considered to be required
