Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Screening test DSC

The measurement shows an endothermic effect (melting, 84.5 °C) and a decomposition of the test substance in the range 290-440 °C, with a decomposition energy of 610 J/g. So the test for explosive properties has to be performed.

Three tests were performed with a circular nozzle plate with a hole of 2 mm diameter used.

Mechanical sensitivity (shock)

No reaction within 6 tests using a 10 kilogram mass from a height 0.4 m was observed.

Mechanical sensitivity (friction)

No reaction within 6 tests pinload with 360 newton was observed.

Final result

The heat of decomposition was determined to be above 500 J/g. Therefore the test on explosion properties was performed.

The test substance has no danger of explosion according to the explosive properties in the

sense of Guideline 92/69/EEC, A.14.

Endpoint:
explosive properties of explosives
Data waiving:
study scientifically not necessary / other information available
Justification for data waiving:
the study does not need to be conducted because the substance contains chemical groups associated with explosive properties which include oxygen, but the calculated oxygen balance is less than - 200

Description of key information

non explosive

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Explosiveness:
non explosive

Additional information

EU Method A.14; Thermal sensitivity, Mechanical Sensitivity (Shock and Friction)

There are chemical groups associated with explosive properties. A screening test shows an endothermic effect (melting, 84.5 °C) and a decomposition of the substance in the range 290 - 440 °C with decomposition energy of 600 J/g. But the calculated oxygen balance is less than -200.

Furthermore no mechanical sensitivity (shock and friction) was observed.

Justification for classification or non-classification

The available data on explosivity of the test substance do not meet the criteria for classification according to Regulation (EC) 1272/2008 and are therefore conclusive but not sufficient for classification: There are chemical groups associated with explosive properties, but based on the calculated oxygen balance (less than -200) the substance is considered to be not explosive.
