Test series of at least 5 tests each were performed with the test item and with 65 % nitric acid in 1:1 mixture, by mass, with cellulose. The cellulose was dried at 105 ± 5 °C until the weight was constant. Due to the particle size of the cellulose (approximately 60 µm) grinding and sieving was not necessary.



Reference substance
In Table 1 the pressure rise times from 690 kPag to 2070 kPag for the 1:1 mixtures, by mass, of 65 % (w/w) nitric acid and cellulose are shown. Figure 1 given in the illustration attached to this ESR shows the time pressure profile.

The mean pressure rise time was 3.23 s. All measured values are within the tolerable range of +/- 30 % (2.26 – 4.20 s) of the mean pressure rise time.

Due to the fact that the 1:1 mixture, by mass, of test item and cellulose had a pressure rise time higher than that of a 1:1 mixture, by mass, of 65 % (w/w) nitric acid and cellulose the test item had no oxidizing properties and no further reference mixtures had to be measured.

Executive summary:

The test item MAT-144 was tested for any oxidizing properties in a reliable and valid study performed compliant with GLP according to UN test method O.2 (UN Manual of Tests and Criteria, revision 7, 2019).
The 1:1 mixture, by mass, of test item MAT-144 and cellulose had a pressure rise time higher than that of a 1:1 mixture, by mass, of 65 % (w/w) nitric acid and cellulose (no pressure rise up to 2070 kPa_g was detected in any test). The test item had no oxidizing properties, and no further reference mixtures had to be measured.
Concluding, the test item had no oxidizing properties under the test conditions in the sense of the UN Manual of Tests and Criteria, revision 7 (2019) Test O.2.
Due to these results the substance does not have to be classified as an “oxidizing liquid”, class 5.1, according to the transport regulations and chapter 2.13* according to GHS (CLP) regulations.

The test item had no oxidizing properties, and no further reference mixtures had to be measured.
