Materials and methods

Test guideline
Qualifier:
no guideline followed
Guideline:
other: Based on the chemical structure of L-TME the oxidising properties were predicted to be negative.
Principles of method if other than guideline:
It is possible to predict the oxidising potential of a molecule by analogy with existing compounds and therefore it is possible to examine the chemical structure of a substance and ascertain whether or not there are any groups present that are associated with oxidising properties. For this purpose a screening procedure has been published in Appendix 6 of the United Nations ‘Recommendations on the Transport of Dangerous Goods, Manual of Tests and Criteria’.

For organic compounds, the substance does not possess oxidising properties if it does not contain oxygen, fluorine or chlorine. If these atoms are present, then the substance does not possess oxidising properties if the atoms are chemically bonded only to carbon and hydrogen.
GLP compliance:
yes (incl. QA statement)

Any other information on results incl. tables

From an examination of the chemical structure of L-TME, it was confirmed that it contained oxygen, but only chemically bonded to carbon and hydrogen. Consequently, L-TME is not expected to possess oxidising properties.

Applicant's summary and conclusion

Interpretation of results:
GHS criteria not met
Conclusions:
From the assessment of the chemical structure it is established that L-TME does not have oxidising properties.
Executive summary:

From the examination of the chemical structure of L-TME, it was confirmed that it contained oxygen, but only chemically bonded to carbon and hydrogen. Consequently, from the assessment of the chemical structure it is established that L-TME does not have oxidising properties.
