Description of key information

No experimental studies regarding toxicokinetics of Tall oil, polymd., oxidized are available. Nevertheless available data from literature and information derived from the testing strategy adopted for the chemical, permit to evaluate main aspects of the substance toxicokinetics.

The substance is a complex mixture of components with a broad range of molecular weight distribution. Molecules with MW > 500 Da are unlikely to be absorbed through the skin. Moreover, the low water solubility and the lipophilic properties of the substance (log Pow > 3) will limit absorption across the skin.

The low water solubility and the lipophilic properties of the substance will limit its absorption in the digestive tract. However, oral absorption may occur.

No data are available regarding the distribution, the metabolism and the excretion od the substance, but repeated dose toxicity studies available for tall oil acid (CIR, 2009. Amended safety assessment of Tall Oil Acid, Sodium Tallate, Potassium Tallate, Amd Ammonium Tallate. International Journal of Toxicology 28(Suppl 3) 252S-258S), indicate that if absorption occurs, the substance is not expected to have a great distribution through the organism, indeed no effects were observed up to 2500 mg/kg bw/day.

Considering the logKOW > 3 of Tall oil, polymd., oxidized, however, bioaccumulation may occur.
