Results and discussion

Results:
The test item represents an alkoxysilane of the formula type RSi(OR)3. Such trialkoxysilanes are known to hydrolyse in aqueous solution to form hydroxysilanes of the type RSi(OH)3. These hydroxysilanes then condensate to form oligomeric/polymeric networks under formation of Si-O-Si bonds.
Figure 1 show the Si-NMR spectrum obtained for the test item in chloroform solution (Test solution 2). The signal groups at -45ppm and -52ppm can be attributed to the test item, no other silicon species can be detected.
The Si-NMR spectra of the aqueous solution of the test item (test solution 3) are shown in figure 2. The observed broad signals at -55 to -70ppm indicate hydrolysis/condensation under formation of Si-O-Si networks leading to oligomeric/polymeric structures of the test item.
The spectra were collected directly after sample preparation. The measurement time was 280 minutes.
The test item is not stable in aqueous solution, the hydrolysis/condensation unter formation of oligomeric/polymeric structures with Si-O-Si networks is indicated.

Applicant's summary and conclusion
