Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

Aquatic acute toxicity

Daphnia magna, water Flea, 48 h, EC50 = 4.82 mg/L

Spirostomum ambiguum (Protozoa), 48 h, EC50 = 0.41 mg/L

Fish, Danio rerio (Zebra Danio), 96 h, LC50 = 1.9 mg/L

Above data are selected from ECOTOX database of EPA.

LC50 (Sheepshead minnow, 4 days): 0.37 mg/l (this data has been taken by the SDS of the substance elaborated by EUROPEAN DIRECTORATE FOR THE QUALITY OF MEDICINES & HEALTHCARE, EDQM).

Spirotox is a short-term acute toxicity test with a large ciliated protozoan Spirostomum ambiguum. Spirotox was found to be very sensitive to heavy metals, fungicides, and pharmaceuticals used to cure diseases of the human nervous system. On the other hand, it was generally less sensitive than standard bioassays to simple organics (source: Nałecz-Jawecki G, Spirotox-Spirostomum ambiguum acute toxicity test-10 years of experience, Environ Toxicol. 2004).

Aquatic chronic toxicity

Adequate Chronic toxicity data are not available. In ECOTOX database of EPA one value of NOEC of 0.1 mg/L for fish (Danio rerio, Zebra Danio) is reported. This NOEC has been determined after 120 hr of exposure and the effect is mortality.

The following acute toxcicity data has been used for the classification of the substance for chronic hazards.

Daphnia magna, water Flea, 48 h, EC50 = 4.82 mg/L

Spirostomum ambiguum (Protozoa), 48 h, EC50 = 0.41 mg/L

Fish, Danio rerio (Zebra Danio), 96 h, LC50 = 1.9 mg/L

The logKow od the substance is 4.92.

Overall, the substance is classified as Aquatic Chronic 1.
