Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Materials and methods

Test guideline
Qualifier:
no guideline followed
Principles of method if other than guideline:
Recently, we established a theoretical model for calculating the surface tension: γ= φ^(-1 ) (Vs/V)kT ((0.0481 Es)/RT) where V or Vs= M/ρ and φ= √3/2 〖((√2 Vs)/N)〗^(2/3)
where M is the molar mass, ρ is the density, N is the Avogadro's number (6.02 · 1023 atoms/mol), γ is the surface tension (mJ m− 2), k is the Boltzmann constant (1.38 · 10− 23 J K− 1),R is the universal gas con- stant (8.31 J K− 1 mol− 1), T is the absolute temperature (K), V and Vs are the molar volumes at any temperature and at the melting point (cm3 mol− 1), respectively, φ is the area occupied (cm2 atom− 1) and Es is the heat of sublimation.
