Data platform availability banner - registered substances factsheets

Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Endpoint:
substances / mixtures which in contact with water emit flammable gases
Data waiving:
study scientifically not necessary / other information available
Justification for data waiving:
other:
Endpoint:
pyrophoric solids
Data waiving:

Endpoint:
self-heating substances / mixtures
Data waiving:
study scientifically not necessary / other information available
Justification for data waiving:
the study does not need to be conducted because the substance is completely molten at 160°C
Endpoint:
flammable solids
Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
key study
Study period:
Jan 27, 2017
Reliability:
1 (reliable without restriction)
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
EU Method A.10 (Flammability (Solids))
GLP compliance:
no
Key result
Test procedure:
burning rate test: preliminary screening test
Burning time:
0 s
Remarks on result:
substance does not ignite and propagate combustion either by burning with flame or smouldering along 200 mm of the powder train within the 2 minutes test period

The test item was formed into a particle train. A hot flame from a gas burner with a diameter of 6 mm is used to ignite the pile at one end. In the preliminary screening test the substance does not ignite by a hot flame from a gas burner. Instead of that, the test item melts.

Interpretation of results:
not classified based on GHS criteria

Description of key information

Non-flammable.

No pyrophoricity.

No flammability on contact with water.

Not self-heating.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Flammability:
not classified

Additional information

The substance does not ignite by a hot flame from a gas burner, it melts. (EU Method A.10., Preliminary test).

Justification for classification or non-classification

The available data on flammability of the test substance do not meet the criteria for classification according to Regulation (EC) 1272/2008, and are therefore conclusive but not sufficient for classification:

Based on the preliminary buring rate test the substance is not flammable on ignition. Based on the chemical structure and experience in handling and use, pyrophoricity and flammability on contact with water are not expected. The substance is a solid with a low melting point (< 160 °C) and therefore does not need to be considered as a self-heating substance.
