Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

Based on the physical chemical properties of tert-butyl methacrylate, the atmosphere is the main target compartment for distribution and only small amounts will remain in the hydrosphere and geosphere.

Additional information

There are no experimental data on transport and distribution of tert-butyl methacrylate available. The adsorption coefficient and Henry's Law constant were calculated by the validated Q(SAR) software EPI Suite v4.11. Based on an estimated log Koc of 1.56, adsorption to solid soil phase is not expected. Henry's Law Constant was calculated to be 281 Pa*m3/mol indicating rapid evaporation of the substance from the water surface into the atmosphere.

Distribution modeling using Mackay Level I indicates that tert-butyl methacrylate is likely to partition to the air compartment (98.5 %) with the remainder partitioning into water (1.43 %); negligible amounts are predicted to occur in other environmental compartments (soil, sediment) (Level I Fugacity, 2009).
