Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

In contact with water, tert-butyl methacrylate will hydrolyze slowly. Photodegradation in air will proceed rapidly, representing an important degradation pathway for this substance. Tert-butyl methacrylate was not readily biodegradable in an OECD 310 -CO2 Headspace test. After 60 days a biodegradation degree of 68 % was determined. Based on these data, tert-butyl methacrylate is considered as not ready biodegradable, but ready biodegradable under enhanced conditions.

Based on an experimental log Kow and calculated BCF, a potential for bioaccumulation is not to be expected. Adsorption of tert-butyl methacrylate to the solid soil phase is not expected.

Fugacity model calculation (Mackay Level I) revealed the atmosphere as the main target compartment for distribution which is also indicated by the substance's physicochemical properties.
