Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

One valid study on the water solubility of chloroform according to OECD Guideline No. 105 was found.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Water solubility:
8 700 mg/L
at the temperature of:
23 °C

Additional information

The water solubility of chloroform was determined in 13 experiments with the shaking flask method (Broholm and Feenstra 1995) according to OECD Guideline 105. Experiments were performed in sealed bottles and any headspace in the bottles was avoided in order to avoid gas phase partitioning. Samples were shaken for half a day and were allowed to settle for at least two days thereafter. Samples were taken from the aqueous phase and injected in a gas chromatograph. The average measured water solubility of chloroform was found to be 8.7 g/L (+/- 0.47 g/L).
