Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

The surface tension range of Hydrocarbons, C7-C9, n-alkanes, isoalkanes, cyclics is 20 to 24 mN/m at 25°C.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

Wilhelmy plate method is used to measure the surface tension using a standardized plate with a plate tensiometer. A range of 20 to 24 mN/m covers all possible grades within this substance description if measured with the agreed method. Using this method Total Fluides (2010) determined the surface tension to be 18.3 -20.0 mN/m at 25 °C, demonstrating that the measured value falls within borderline values.
