The adsorption coefficient (KOC) on soil and on sewage sludge using high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) was estimated according to OECD/OCDE 121 and Council Regulation (EC) No. 440/2008, Method C.19 for the test item atDr.U.Noack‑Laboratorien, 31157 Sarstedt, Germany.

The test was performed temperature controlled (20 °C) with a mobile phase of 60 % methanol and 40 % HPLC-water. A 10 mg/L sample of the test itemwas analyzed threefold via HPLC on a cyanopropyl (CN-) column with PDA-detection. Calibration was performed using six reference items for soil and six for sewage sludge with known values of log KOC. Analysis of the reference items were performed once before and after analysis of test item, respectively. Dead time of the HPLC-system was determined threefold using 2 mg/L sodium nitrate.

The test item consists mainly of 2-ethoxy-2`-ethyloxalanilide. Minor components are bis-ethyloxalanilide (5.62%) and bisethoxyoxalanilide ( 1.06%). Under test conditions the retention times of the test item were found to be 3.28 ±0.01 minutes (bisethoxyoxalanilide) and 3.675 ± 0.002 minutes (2-ethoxy-2`-ethyloxalanilidand bis-ethyloxalanilide) at pH 7.1. Using these retention times the log KOCwere estimated.
