  • Pre-test


The flash point of the test item was detected at 63.0°C during the ramp test between 55°C and 85°C.



  • First Determination


The flash point of the test item was detected at 63.0°C during the first determination.
An automatic correction was applied to the obtained result because the ambient pressure was not 101.3 kPa but 98.2 kPa.
With this correction, the flash point value is 64.0°C at 101.3 kPa.
The appearance of the test item left in the test cup did not change. No sign of decomposition or film formation was observed.



  • Second Determination


The flash point was detected at 63°C during the second determination.
An automatic correction was applied to the obtained result because the ambient pressure was not 101.3 kPa but 98.2 kPa.
With this correction, the flash point value is 64.0°C at 101.3 kPa.

  • Control of the performance of the Method


The flash point of the Certified Reference Material (Batch N° 4182308) was detected at 74.0°C.
An automatic correction was applied to the obtained result because the ambient pressure was not 101.3 kPa but 98.1 kPa.
With this correction, the flash point value of the Certified Reference Material is 75.0°C at 101.3 kPa.
The flash point of the reference substance butanol (Batch N° JA080888) was detected at 38.0°C.
An automatic correction was applied to the obtained result because the ambient pressure was not 101.3 kPa but 98.2 kPa.
With this correction, the flash point value of the butanol is 39.0°C at 101.3 kPa.



  • Validation of the results


The flash point of the reference substances CRM, 75.0°C respects also the checking cards limits and complies with the validation criteria of 75.3 +/- 2 °C.



The measured flash point value for the reference substance butanol, 39.0°C is within the control cards limits and complies with the validation criteria of 38.0 +/- 1°C.


The results of the two determinations (64.0°C for both determinations at 101.3 kPa) meet validation criteria (no more than 1°C of difference).
The barometer pressure and the apparatus pressure did not differ by more than 0.5 kPa.
Therefore, the results are considered as valid.
As the two determinations have the same value of the flash point, the selected value for this study is 64.0°C at 101.3 kPa.
