In water, Fatty acids, C8-10, Me esters (CAS 85566-26-3) is readily biodegradable. Therefore, hydrolysis is not considered as a relevant degradation pathway. The calculated log Koc of 2.7 – 3.3, indicates a moderate potential to adsorb to soil and sediment. However, due to the ready biodegradability, the substance will not persist in these compartments and as the test substance has a low water solubility it is expected that sediments are, if at all, only exposed to very small amounts of the test substance. In case the substance is present in wastewater, they will be eliminated in common wastewater treatment plants to a large amount due to the readily biodegradability of Fatty acids, C8-10, Me esters. Henry’s law constants of the main components of Fatty acids, C8-10, Me esters of 79.3 Pa m³/ mol - 171 Pa m³/ mol (HENRYWIN, EPI Suite) showing that the substance is volatile from water but due to the short half-life in air of 1.5 - 2.1 days calculated according to SRC AOPWIN, it is concluded that Fatty acids, C8-10, Me esters will not accumulate in air and will not be transported through the vapour phase into other environmental compartments in relevant amounts. Thus, air is not a likely route of environmental contamination and no accumulation and subsequent deposition of Fatty acids, C8-10, Me esters is to be expected. Bioaccumulation is expected to be low due to a) the low bioavailability of the test substance, b) the rapid metabolisation in fatty acids and c) experimental BCF values below 100 for aliphatic esters. The overall environmental fate profile indicates that the substance is not persistent in the environment.
