Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

Toxic effects on sediment dwelling invertebrates are not expected.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

No studies on long-term sediment toxicity are available for the UVCB substance fatty acids, C8 -10. Due to the estimated log Koc range of 2.05 - 2.64 predicted for the two main constituents (octanoic acid and decanoic acid, respectively) of the substance (ChemProp v6.4, Franco, Fu & Trapp model for ionizable substances at pH 7) a low adsorption to sediment is anticipated. In addition, both constituents are considered to be readily biodegradable, hence it can be assumed that the substance will be completely biologically degraded within the sediment transport process. Therefore, no chronic exposure of sediment dwelling organisms is expected. Furthermore, fatty acids occur in sediment and soils naturally, are part of physiological pathways and can be used as energy source. Thus, toxic effects caused by the UVCB substance fatty acids, C8-10 are not expected.
