The mutagenic effects of sodium bromate (NaBrO3) and silver bromate (AgBrO3) were evaluated by Kurokawa et al (1990) in microbial tests with Salmonella typhimurium strains TA 97, 98, 100 and 102 to determine the general mutagenic potential of bromate compounds (BrO3). The authors stated that NaBrO3 and AgBrO3 were negative in all strains tested at maximum concentrations of 5 mg/plate and 25 µg/plate, respectively, without providing further details on the results or the method used.
