Skin sensitisation

Endpoint conclusion
Endpoint conclusion:
no study available
Additional information:

No studies on skin sensitization with sodium 2-methylbutan-2-olate are available. According to the REACh Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006, Annex VII, column 2 point 8.3 a study on skin sensitization does not need to be conducted if the substance is classified for skin corrosion. The test substance is classified as skin corrosive based on the available information and is used as a transported intermediate. According to REACh regulation 1907/2006, Article 18, further testing is not required.

Respiratory sensitisation

Endpoint conclusion
Endpoint conclusion:
no study available

Justification for classification or non-classification

As the test substance hydrolyses rapidly in contact with water, the hydrolysis products are considered to be relevant for classification. The hydrolysis products 2-methylbutan-2-ol (CAS No. 75-85-4) and sodium hydroxide (CAS No. 1310-73-2) showed no sensitizing properties to skin (according to the disseminated dossier published on the homepage of ECHA) and are not classified as skin sensitizer or respiratory sensitization according to CLP regulation (EC) No 1272/2008. In conclusion, the test substance is not classified as skin sensitizer.
